Mayor Johnson: Allegations not factor in decision not to run

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson discussed his decision Wednesday not to run for re-election.

Johnson said it was a difficult decision to make, and that it took a lot of thinking and discussing with family, friends and colleagues. He added that he ultimately believes this is the best thing for the city and people of Sacramento.

“I love Sacramento, and I’m proud to say that over the last seven years we’ve made tremendous progress,” Johnson said. “Have we accomplished everything, no we haven’t. Is the city in a better position — without a doubt.”

Johnson made the announcement Tuesday night in a photo statement on Twitter that he would not seek a third term in office.
